Hi,
6,587 miles, 17 countries, 144 days we are back at the English channel, Oonagh said " If we listen very carefully we would hear it on the wind", There coming home, there coming home, Chaffs are coming home, ( We don't expect banners, but a free meal would be nice). Anyway we left Moilets on 7/10/09 for the coastal town of Royan, great weather again as we watched the beach sailing, after 1 night we moved on to Poutiers and Futurescope ( an adult theme park? ), Lots of i-max & 3-d theatres and computer games for 9 hrs, a long day. We were meant to stay for 3 days, but after 2 it had turned miserable, so we moved on to Sonzay, a small village, with a camp-site full of Polish people working on the farms apple picking and a strange woman who camped in her car with 2 dogs, we caught her going through the bins in the village. We brought a heater and wore shoes and socks for the first time since 23rd May.
Now we are at our 58th and last camp-site of our European leg. Port- Bassin, 3 miles from Omaha beach, and the American cemetery for the 9,300 that fell on D-day, 4 miles from Gold beach at Arromanches where the British landed and made the mulberry harbour, and in between there are the German batteries placed along the cliffs. We were again blessed with a lovely sunny day, so we cycled to the beaches and museums, its hard to imagine what happened here 65 years ago, now its all so peaceful.
