THE FINAL Blog 31/08/2011 We entered France via the Riviera at Monaco, For a change we decided to head inland into the Pre-Alps north of Nice, We thought a spot of mountain walking would make a nice challenging (for some not for others) break, 60 miles later and half way up a mountain perched on a ledge we found a campsite way above Puget Theniers which afforded us fantastic views looking down the valley towards the Cote D Azur and a helping of vertigo getting in and out of the camper van. Here is mountain goat territory the higher we climbed the better the vista's and the more unfit I appeared. It was here sadly we woke to only the second day of rain since leaving the UK, Sitting under the awning having breakfast in the middle of a thunder cloud (a really weird experience being inside one) we decided to hang up our travelling flip-flops (thongs) for a while and to do something more meaningful after this trip, So taking advantage of the bad weather we headed back to the coast, to do what we do best.(life's a beach) after a few more days of loafing we moved inland again into Provence and into the Cote du Rhone the Ven dange is in full swing, Polish migrant workers are in force for the month long harvest ,to be honest it does look like back breaking work in this heat (their welcome to it).
09/09/11 After the Golden Gappers global tour award for best meal, It was back to Uncle Alan's and Aunt Anne's at Aubignan to see if his Paella was a fluky one off, I can confirm another award winning performance, A great meal again, Followed by a full Monty fry up breakfast the next morning to send us on our way (Address can be supplied)
As the nights began to get a little bit chillier we slowly made our way along the south coast to with insight of the Pyrenees mountains making the most of the gloriously warm days and planning what to do next with our lives, We were surrounded by a great bunch of Brits.
25/09/11 Waved goodbye to our new found friends and started the long haul north and the UK, Crossing the Millau bridge the highest in the world, crossing the Massif central taking the toll free route to Paris (yes I am a skinflint) we arrived in Versailles 2 days later, A day trip in to Paris for the sights and retail therapy treatment down the Champs Elysees which I was told thoroughly deserved after 4 months of only wearing shorts & T's.
The following day we toured the Palace of Versailles, With loads of puns about eating cake we spent 6 hours solid walking around the Palace , the superb out of this world gardens with fittingly piped music and the whole Antoinette bit, all grandeur decadence at its finest (Quite expensive visit) and does anyone live in Japan anymore (No wonder they market digital cameras)
29/09/2001 And sadly Calais a final stop over before crossing the channel by ferry this time. Oonagh and I hope you've enjoyed our tales, highs and the lows of our great adventure, the blog site company turns the journal into a hard back book. If you have any comments now's the time we are sure it's a best seller and possibly a movie, Sean Connery for me and Demi playing Oonagh.
We are back in the UK for 2 weeks from tomorrow, Before we set off on a different journey, If you want to meet up or find out what we are up to, Normal mobiles, Emails and Oonagh's face book
New Dreams and lots to do
