So onto Sydney we headed (I know I'm a month behind but I'm trying my best!!!!)
After checking in at Wake UP! (our hostel ) we had a very tasty full english brekkie and then headed out for a wander around the streets of Sydney. We walked from the hostel down George Street to Darling Harbour. On our way we passed through the Paddy's market and the Chinese Gardens. We saw the two most famous landmarks in Sydney - the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge which I thought were jusy as impressive as the pictures make them out to be! For tea we headed out to Surry Hills in search of a curry and we found a great one!!!!!!
The next day we walked along to the Opera House via the Rocks, and took loads of photos. Totally stunning views, and really great scenery made for some pretty good snaps, and in celebration we went for an early lunch at 'Pancakes on the Rocks'. After that, we walked down to the Opera House, and paid to take our tour - it cost $25AUD for an hour and abit, but was definately worth while. We were given a brilliant tour, and an explanation of how the building was built and designed, as well as the opportunity to take some great photos of its structure. Really lucky too that we got to see inside some of the concert halls and stages, before taking some photos of the outside of the building.
We then wandered along to the Botanic Gardens where you get a fantastic view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. I then headed back over to Darling Harbour, which is a hell of a walk, to go to the Aquarium while Clare climbed the bridge (not my thing really). The aquarium was pretty impressive, especially the glass tunnel with the shark swimming over your head!!!!!!!!
The following day we headed dow to Bondi Beach! We had a great day in the sun and topping up our tans! It's not as big as I thought but it was pretty busy. We had a great time relaxing, reading our books and it was really really hot so we made sure we re-applied the suntan cream and drank lots of water (Mum you will be glad!!!!)
It was our final night in Sydney and we had arranged to meet up with Grant (a guy who lives in Sydney and he was on our trip through S.E. Asia). We also took along 2 guys that we have been bumping into all the way from Singapore down to Sydney, Matt and Dean. We ended up going out for tea with Grant at a lovely Thai place in the student district so it was really cheap!!!!! We then went to a student bar which was dead and Matt and Dean joined us there. It was so lovely to see Grant and as seen as he lives so far away it was very sad to say goodbye but hopefully we will get to see him again!!!! Grant had work the next day so he left us and we continued to a few other bars with Matt and Dean. It was a great way to say goodbye to Sydney, but hopefully it won't be too long until I get to go back...if you get a chance you must go as it is a FANTASTIC city!!!!!!
The next day we flew over to Melbourne. We stayed in St Kilda fvor a few days then had to move into the centre as the Melbourne Grand Prix was on so the rooms in St Kilda were crammed. Melbourne wasn't so fantastic but we got taken out for the day by one of Clare's friends which was nice. We went to the start of the Great Ocean Road so at least we can day we have seen it!@!!!! We also got to go on the Neighbours tour which was fantastic...definately got to be done when you're a brit in Melbourne.
Got to go now but I'll try and do another update soon. Email me and let me know how you all are!!!!! Lots of Love Ceri xxxxxxxxxxxx
