So I went for the beaches and that's what I got. The white sand, the warm water, the beautiful sunsets, the tan and the sunburn... I started at Batu Ferrenghi a 2km beach strip along the Northern coast of Penang just outside of George Town. The rain always held off till late afternoon when you were exhausted, taking a cold shower and getting ready for dinner, it was perfect! I stayed at a very homy hostel full of hammocks, pets, with friendly owners who gave me and a friend another upgrade to a private double! I love it when bookings go wrong... sometimes. The days were lazy with the exception of visiting a few temples, an impressive floating mosque, and my favourite, a walk through the national park leading to Monkey Bay. This walk trough the jungle lead to a secluded beach with monkey thieves who had obviously been practicing their skills. Luckily we only lost a few cookies and no passports. As lazy as it was, still craving more lazy days, I moved North to Langkawi island as suggested by so many people I met. Langkawi, a duty free island built for tourism, reminded me of an underdeveloped Sentosa island in Singapore. Looking back at things, I should have stayed a few more nights in Penang, but no way to tell the future I guess, just make the best out of it. I stayed at walking distance to the main beach strip Pentai Cenang, a beach lined with resorts and restaurants on the main drag. The beach itself I can't complain, white sand, warm water and no jelly sightings! What made my week here even better was renting a motor bike and exploring the island which has many scenic attractions if you go looking for them. My highlights....the waterfalls! Each having their own charm, Durian falls stood out among the rest for me, having the most water, best view and a refreshing pool to swim in. Although Temerung falls is incredible and I couldn't imagine how great it would be during Monsoon season. The whole day spent exploring was great even the last three hours in the POURING rain. Ironically I had made fun of the weather in Canada that morning, well, rain on a motorbike feels like hail pellets on the skin, serves me right. I stayed for a full week in Langkawi waiting for the right time to cross the border into Thailand to work the 15 day visa to my advantage. Unfortunately my extended stay became an issue when my body started to reject the sun... I had to stay in my dorm room for the last three days, just waiting. Very hard to do when you know there is so much to see. Malaysia, has impressed me in many ways and I have really grown to love and feel comfortable here, a little sad to leave but I know I will be back, probably sooner then I think. Now for Thailand!

Dad You are having the most interesting adventure I ever heard of. Of course Marco Polo and Magellan were great explorers but they only belong to history books. You belong to my family book and that is very much better. Dad
