My time in KL was longer then I had planned but very relaxing and easy. KL, a modern city with good public transportation, English can be used in most places and I stayed at Raizzys guesthouse, a great hostel that has 24 hour tea and coffee. Nothing like a good cup of tea before bed! Just like home. Although getting here was a bit of a hassle, walking the streets for 2 hours, when I arrived, nothing but sleep was going to happen. The first day, I did my usual exploring of the city on foot, going to the busy markets of Chinatown, the chaotic streets of little India that had great smelling food every couple blocks where veggies could indulge in authentic cooking. Although I didn't know what I was eating, it was just delicious! Wondering through Merdeka square, the outdoor central market, the impressive Masjid Jamek, National Mosque and the city gallery, I was spent. My second day I went to the Batu caves, the most renowned Hindu shine outside of India. This limestone hill guarded by a 140 foot tall Murug statue at the top of 272 steps was very impressive to say the least, a must see when in KL. The cave was crawling with monkeys (one attacked a tourist,,, very thankful for my years working at the zoo where I learned NOT to smile at the monkeys). Afterwards I headed to Kanching falls, just 40 minutes from the city center, the bus drops you off on the other side of the road of a four lane highway... Once across, you reach 7 waterfalls that cascade one into each other forming basins of water which you can swim in. I followed a trail alongside the waterfall using roots and trunks to climb up, the last two waterfalls were a bit challenging to reach but very worth it. Possibly my favourite day trip. My third day was started off Templer park, where you find a small waterfall and plenty of locals picnicking. The rain season is starting so I could not stay long, lightning and jungles just don't mix. The rain is beautiful though, huge drops. I hid at the National museum for a while then strolled through the botanical gardens and lake gardens. That night I visited the KLCC towers, stunning islamic inspired architecture. I didn't go up the 88 floors, the towers lite up at night in the rain was well worth it for me. My last day was spent at the Genting highlands, rated as one of the scariest cable cars in the world. You get to climb 1279 m to the summit where they built,,,, another theme park and casino. This was the first time I was cold in a while and it was nice. In the clouds, looking down into the dense jungle while birds sore below was intense, a great suggestion by a new friend. Today I am making my way inland to Jerantut, my last stop before Tamen Negara.
