14th February – Valentine Day – Boy they celebrate this more than us. Romantic stages set around the city to pose for photos with your loved one, uuuurrrgggghhhh sickening(Ade pleaded for me to stand with him for a picture... NOT!!!). Got up at 10.00 (had to wake Ade up, now that is saying something!) Went out soon after to walk into the city again, stopped off on Unity Street at a Bistro for breakfast / lunch, really lovely and calm. Continued down into the city along the river and walked miles to the Marina Sands Bay hotel (the fantastic 3 columned hotel with a boat on top – look it up on Google). Paid 20 dollars to get the roof bar and then paid 44 dollars for 2 pints of Stella. I know, err yes that is £15 per pint! You have to do it as the views are phenomenal and the beer somehow tastes better at that price ;o) Stayed there for a few hours and returned to the bottom, everso slightly tipsier than when we went up. Oh, you can get glimpses of the pool as this is still set as private for the residents – it’s a 150m long infinity pool, so as you swim to the sides, it looks as though you’re going to drop off the end – 58 storeys up!
Caught the City Sightseeing bus below the hotel and stopped off at the Botanical Gardens for a chilled out meander. Ade insisted we walk through the Tropical Rainforest section, my god, as though it isn’t humid enough! Around the city it is 30degrees heat with 80% humidity! Told Denise she will need to get the washing machine on standby for when we arrive!
Walked around the park and sat and watched the Koi and terrapins being fed by the public (you can buy the food from dispensers around the park). Wandered back to the bus to continue to the bus terminal where we were chucked off, as it was the end of the day for the buses. So, had to walk back through shopping centres to get to the hotel area. Stopped off at a Croc shop on the way back and umed and arred about a pair of shoes but thought better of it after spending so much on beers today! Realised it was 8pm and we hadn’t eaten, so proceeded to Robertson’s Quay to find somewhere, oh boy was it busy with all those icky love hearts! Finally found a restaurant called The Pump House and had a lovely meal in the covered area of Clarkes Quay and people watched!! Interesting combinations and styles.
Walked back home and got in about 11.00pm. Finished off the hipster of whiskey and fell asleep.
