After the Grrrrrreat experience of the Great Ocean Road we stayed in a "hicksville" type caravan park - felt like 20 people per square inch and millions of kids!! so we were sooo ready for the day ahead! ;)
We thought we had better actually get in the sea properly and try some surfing.... so novices at the ready we did a 1/2 day lesson in Torquay on our route down. Fab day... we were up for a tough time but were pleasantly suprised and was definately good fun (although I achave paid up for it since over the last few days!... and I only managed to stand for a few seconds) P on the other hand (born natural sufer duuuude!) managed to stand within the first few minutes of being on the board! loved it!
Melbourne City.......... We stayed in a HUGE back packers hostel come hotel called Hotel Discovery right in the city centre. Great location crazy experience..... The first night the bar provided us a great experience with free pool good music and cheap beers.
We filled the day with a look around the centre and visited the ACMI which gave us an insight into film making & had lots of interesting models & a set from the movie Australia.
Dinner time...... This left us dumbfounded & indeed mesmerised ! Looking at the chaos of the shared kitchen was actually almost scary ! ! ! Imagine 25 or so scoundrel back packers all scavenging for a sauce pan and you'll get some idea. We managed a bowl each and a solitary tea spoon to eat our soups, this was suffice time in ther so we left our Noodles & everything else behind before we were eaten ourselves !
After this excitement we decided to get outta there and see the Bohemian area of Fitzroy which didn't disappoint. Lots of very trendy cool and well decorated bars abound the huge swankyBrunswick Street and we stumbled acrosss the best cocktail bar ever ! The menu was like something from a Michellin star restaurant and we were treated like royalty ! About time too !On the whole a really cool and relaxed place to go and we'd defo visit again with more time to spare.
Onwards to New Zealand.................... Speak soon................xxxxxxxx
