Saturday 7 February Hobart
Sunny 28
Being Saturday we had to go to Salamanca Markets this morning. I had heard so much about the markets and I thought the quality was excellent, some of the stall holders had very Tasmanian goods. I think the boys were a bit bored but after an hour we called in at Smalt for a coffee. We also had a look in the Tassal shop next door at all the Salmon and interesting sauces and spices.
Today is our trip to Mona the New and Old Museum of Art. We booked tickets on the ferry to get there and back, which leaves from Salamanca This weekend is also the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart so Salamanca is full of boats for the festival. The Diamond Princess cruise ship is also moored in the Harbour so there are thousands of people around in the markets, looking at the boats and probably visiting Mona.
The half hour ferry trip gives us a great view of the Diamond Princess and the fly over of a group of red and white striped planes that are displaying their formations. In less than half an hour we arrive at Mona, the Moorilla Winery originally housed in the Building has since been expanded into the Museum. It's an impressive building from the ferry.
We entered the museum and wandered around looking at most of the displays. There was a variety of displays, some interesting and some eccentric. The poo room is a machine that is fed daily with food, the types of things we eat and using chemicals, acids and enzymes to digest the food and eventually - just like the human body or any other ,,, produces poo. The smell is quite on the nose as gasses are excreted, that's why it has it;s own room.
A couple of hours later we had seen all we wanted so headed out into the grounds before getting the ferry back to Hobart. The temperatures were supposed to reach 32C but we suspected that 28C was as high as it got. The ferry returned to Salamanca and we had a look at the wooded boats moored at the wharf. By 4pm we got in the car and returned to the Motel. Dinner once again was at the Hotel here. We have decided to have a game at Royal Hobart tomorrow and got a time at 10.07am.
