I left Surfers Paradise last weekend and headed up to the city of Brisbane. My first impression was that I didn't like it at all. The weather was bad and rain makes every place look dreary and rubbish. However as the week has gone on it has grown on me and I actually quite like it now.
At first our hostel was awesome; hot tub, swimming pool, clean rooms, big kitchen, beer garden, tv room. However two mornings in a row I came down for breakfast and some lovely person had stolen my $1 bread and the TV room smelt like male sweat. It's still a great hostel despite that, it's got a good club attached to it with comedy, trivia and ladies nights plus you get free evening meals Monday-Wednesday and a free BBQ on Thursdays - nothings better than free food when you're a traveller!
On the job front I got a job offer from a restaurant.....in Sydney and got offered a job trial (working for accomodation) in a hostel but I didn't go for it as if I'm going to be working for accomodation I'd rather be doing it in a nice little beachy place. So I rang Frasers on Rainbow beach, a hostel that organises the Fraser Island trips, and I'm starting work there next Friday. It will just be making beds in the morning and doing dishes, I won't be earning much if anything at all but it will save me $25 a day in accomodation. I'm looking forward to having something to do and meeting new people who pass through the hostel.
So, other than job search online and hand out C.Vs, in Brisbane I have seen the Botanical Gardens (which personally I prefer to Sydney's), had a night time stroll by the river (I love the bright city lights at night), met up with my sisters lovely friend Sophie who lives here and took me for beers and food (a luxury for me!), won a $100 bar tab by winning a boat race and a scavenger hunt in a hostel bar (between my team we spent the lot on Tequila!), lay in the sun and swam in the lagoon a lot, spent lazy days in the hostel pool and hot tub, met some crazy Germans who got bored and shaved their heads, food shopped 10 minutes before closing time when you get lots of seriously good offers (yes it has come to that), wandered around the city dragging Jennika out of shops before she buys things she cannot afford plus a few days of sitting in the hostel hating the rain and wishing it was time for bed so the day would be over!
Tomorrow I'm off to Noosa which is a few hours up the coast, hanging out there for a few days and then heading to Rainbow Beach where I will be working for a few weeks before doing my Fraser Island trip :)
I'm still off the chocolate for lent which isn't too hard here as everything is expensive and I know my money would be better spent on noodles....or beer! Yes this trip has converted me, I actually really appreciate a schooner of cold beer. I think at home I just thought of it as a mans drink but here everyone drinks it, especially the europeans and I do like it!
Missing you all back home, I think about you lots. I think I'm hitting the half way mark of my travels now which I am sad about but I also can't wait to see everyone at home. I have done and seen so much so far that if you thought I talked a lot before I left you need to prepare yourself for my homecoming because one question about my trip and I will be off for hours and probably wont let you get a word in edgeways :)
