Well we arrived here in Naples 3 days ago now. We arrived late after the many delays with the trains that we were taking from Venice, but eventually we arrived here in Naples around 11 at night, just the perfect time for two young American guys that have no idea where they are to arrive to in a place that is known for its crime and Mafia. Great!... Anyway after figuring out our trains and metros we mannaged to walk to our hostel, 6 small rooms, which provide much of our entertainment here in Naples.
We awoke the next morning and decided to go and visit the historic "city" of Pompeii! We got a 35 minute ride over and spent much of the rest of the day exploring this ruined city and seeing the effects of a natural desaster from this scale. I really wish that Mt, Vecivious would blow again and erase Naples from the map also, I think most of us would appericate that. We viewed all of that famous sites and such as the colusseam, theaters, brothels, people that were preserved from the ash, markets, and fast food joints(clearly McDondalds started well before its first milllion people served). Eventually we got tierd of the crowds, tour groups and popular roads, so we decided that we would explore the city for our selves, we hopped a few fences and ducked some ropes and we were soon making our own tour through this historic city, viewing it from our point of view. After five or so hours in the city we boarded a train and returned to Naples to enjoy more pizza and beer, and enjoyed a quite night around the hostel.
We awoke this morning to fireworks exploding in the distance and outside our hotels, not sure why really, I guess this is just a normal thing here in Naples. Spent most of the morning planning the rest of our trip and deciding where we should spend our time in southern France, we decided on 3 nights in Marseille. We then got out finally around 2, went and got MORE PIZZA, and then set off exploring to see what Naples had to offer. (found out not a lot! hahahaha) We visited a large castle on the coast and walked the boardwalk around the harbor and then wandered through some of that Spanish Districts and tried to find a few famous pizza shops, although we ended up just getting lost in that tiny back streets that smelled like trash and crap. Finally got back to our hostel in the evening with pizza and beers again and relaxed in the cool atmosphere here watching the Blues Brothers and talking with the other people staying here. Athough Naples was no town painted in gold and lights, it did supply us with the great wonders of Pompeii and great cheap PIZZA! Will I ever return here.....probably not for more than a day trip, but it was worth the experience. Off to Rome today!

Steve You are really enticing us with all the pizza! An element of the trip not to be diminished!
Amelia I can only imagine that the pizza is amazing, however that is not the only food Italy has to offer!!! Ask some locals of any great places to eat! You are not fulfilling your duties as a traveler by only eating one thing! haha
