So Hanoi maybe redeemed itself when we got back there. We checked into a nicer hotel and went out for a nice meal. The next day we both wanted to see different things. Rik headed off to a military museum which was really interesting and full of propaganda from the war. There were helicopters and tanks and other vehicles that had been seized from the opposition. Anna headed off to see Ho Chi Minh lying in his mausoleum which was very surreal. Thousands of people flock there every day. Against his wishes he was embalmed after he died and lies on a bed for people to see. From September to December every year he gets taken to Russia for a bit of restoration. He just looked liked he was sleeping. It's very intimidating with soldiers stood guard around him holding guns and bayonets. We were pushed into place as we walked in to see him and ushered round the mausoleum in silence. Anna met up with a group originally from Glasgow but had moved out to Australia in the sixties. We then all headed to see the rest of the grounds and the summer house where Ho Chi Minh spent a lot of time.
That afternoon we headed back to the airport for our flight down to Danang. Hoi An was a short drive from Danang airport. We have checked into a beautiful hotel and are off out for food and to see what this place has to offer. All looks good so far. More soon .....
