Carmen's Adventure
Kuala Lumpur, 4th July
After our amazing flight we arrived in an awesome city. It was only a three hour flight but we still had a personal TV, meals and unlimited drinks! I watched Unknown which I had wanted to see in ages and by the end of three hours of free wine it was safe to say we were slightly tipsy when we arrived in Kuala Lumpur. I would recommend Malaysia Airlines to everyone! They cant do enough for you they even come round with wine to make sure you still have a full glass. Even when they had run out of white they offered us red instead.
Before leaving duty free we bought a bottle of captain morgans rum between us because it cost like £8. We got a bus from the airport to the city centre. It was amazing, I was expecting it to be another Asian city but it was so western!! I was thinking as we drove through that I could be in England again. When we got off the bus a man asked us if we wanted to stay at Oasis Backpackers and told us the way to get there.
When we got there we went straight to 7 Eleven!! It wasn't like the ones we were used to, it was no where near as good but we bought a bottle of coke and some curry pastry things. We then went to the roof top of the hostel and had a couple of drinks with some lads up there. The view was awesome. We could see the Patronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur tower which were all lit up at night.

We wanted to see the Patronas Towers and the Kuala Lumpur tower today. We were going to get the bus but couldn't work out how it worked to decided to walk. It was quite a way but worth it because we could stop at things along the way and see the city properly. When we came across a shopping centre which had Debenhams and Mango in it we were straight in there.
They had western things!! There was a department store where we had another sprits of perfume and I bought a couple of bras. We then carried on walking to the towers because someone had told us we needed to get there early to be given a ticket and a time to go back and go to the top.
We found the Patronas towers first which we thought were free to go up but they turned out to be £8. We decided to just go to the top of the Kuala Lumpur tower because it was higher but we thought we would have a look in the bottom to see how posh it was.
Well I was shocked when we got inside. It was the best shopping centre I have ever been in! There were all the designer shops like Prada, Jimmy Choos, Tiffany & Co., etc. We spent hours in there looking around all the shops, mostly the ones we could actually afford though like Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins. I normally hate window shopping because I want to buy everything but it was great seeing normal fashions again and imagining what I can buy when I get home and have money again! We went into Tiffany & Co. and I almost bought a ring! It was gorgeous but I decided to wait until I get to the end of my trip in New York to check I could still afford it then.
The shopping centre wasn't only great for shopping it was also great for food. There were so many little cafes that sold amazing looking cakes. We ended up having a chocolate fondue together which Id always wanted to have. There were also stalls with the most amazing cupcakes and ice creams.
On the walk back to the hostel we came across another amazing shopping centre where we went on a search for some Sushi. They didn't have any but we decided to go back there tomorrow. The rest of the night was spent searching for Little India that only a few Malays seemed to know about so we didn't find it in the end. Instead we went to China Town and shared a pork sizzler which was really nice. After all that walking though I really needed to sleep.

We woke up early today so that we could go up the Kuala Lumpur tower and then go to the shopping centre. We went to the central market first and had a look around before getting some better directions to the Kuala Lumpur tower. It didn't take as long to get to that side of the city this time and we got straight up the tower. The views were awesome and we each had a personal headset that told us what we were looking at through each window.
Included in the ticket was a mini zoo visit which was at the bottom of the tower. It was filled with snakes, geckos, spiders, monkeys, racoons, two headed turtles and some weird hairless things (apparently mice). We stayed there for a while until we went on a free walking tour through the rainforest where we were absolutely attacked by mosquitoes!
Once we had finished the activities at the tower we went to the shopping centre first we had some lunch and then had a little look around the shops. There weren't too many we could actually shop in though because they were all designer. We went over the road to another shopping centre. We were really looking for a coffee shop but ended up giving into having one from Mc Donalds.
We decided to head back to the hostel to get our bags and then head straight to the airport. We got the train this time. The train station was great though so we stopped there to have dinner before getting on the train. The airport was great as well, it had loads of shops to look in. We had another sprits of perfume and used some of the free samples in Body Shop.
We were flying with the budget part of Malaysia Airlines this time but they were still really great. Because we had paid to have our bags checked in we got a free meal on the flight.
It was easy enough to get from the airport to Kota Kinabalu where we were dropped off at a place called Lucy's Homestay. The woman showed us straight to our beds and we crashed out.
