It feels so good to be away from the tourist beaches and blend in to the laidback city life of Brisbane. It's the capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest city (following Sydney and Melbourne) and has seen a lot of development within recent years.
The river cat ferry zig-zags across the meandering banks of the Brisbane River which runs through the city separating the North of the city from the South. Along South Bank lays many cafes and slightly set back behind these runs a little high street. On the river front, Streets Beach Lagoon takes pride of place filling with office workers during the lunch hour and families at the weekend. The North side is full of tower blocks; the pedestrianised Queen Street Mall boasts shops either side of it with a row of cafes running along the centre. Along the river is Story Bridge, one of Brisbane's landmarks; another being City Hall.
During my weeks stay in Brisbane I didn't do too much other than explore the city; City Hall, Brisbane Museum, Brisbane Planetarium, Art Galleries, and I had one day trip out to Whitewater World - it was brilliant! I was the first one in the park at 10am and by 11.15am I had been on every ride, so there was nothing else to do except do my favourites again, and again, and again! I soon got warn out though and left the park after lunch and headed over to Surfer's Paradise for the rest of the day; a bit disappointing after all the hype, it is a massive beach and there were a lot of waves but the town itself is a big tourist hub so overall, I wasn't impressed.
And so my time in Brisbane draws to a close, it has been lovely to be away from the tourist filled beaches and relax in this friendly, laidback place. I also managed to catch up with my Queensland relatives which was a major bonus - it was so nice to see them all.
