A six hour coach ride took me accross the desert to Yulara, the town hosting the Ayers Rock Resort and bordering the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the park hosting Ayers Rock (Uluru) and The Olgas (Kata Tjuta). The bus driver took only two right-hand turns during the whole of the journey, the road was so empty and bright red sands and brown coloured grasses lined either side of it as well as Kangaroo carcasses and the odd Camel one too. The massive expanse was almost surreal as there was often nothing that represented human existence for miles and miles. That was of course until I reached Yulara where you wouldn't even know you were in the desert if it wasn't for the extortionate pricing of everything within the Resort. Anyway, that's not the reason I am here, it's to view a spectacular monolith, namely, Ayers Rock. And spectacular it is! It's so big and throughout the day it changes colour; red, deep purple, black. I paid to go into the National Park and view the rock up close for sunrise and I did a walk around part of the base; at one point it was silent I'm sure.
Later that day I joined a sky night tour. It was extremely interesting and I saw so many stars; the sky was so clear. I was shown the star signs and various other constellations and through telescopes I viewed the moon's surface and even Saturn's ring - amazing!
