(Read yesterdays journal again, wev added bits we were too tired to remember yday!)
Last night we explored khaosan road, its amazing and had wonderful dinner of chilli noodles and chicken, for two of us including drinks it was 3quid, how ridic!
So...today's been interesting...was really good day. We didnt realise the river kwai and death railway had such an awful history that involved so many british. Basically This railway was built through Thailand to Burma during second world war. The japenese made prisoners of war build it and all the details are very moving. 60,000 died because of the conditions that they were made to work in. The picture shows what they had to build through and the scenery that we saw today.
We got a bus and then another high speed boat ride down the river kwai to the famous bridge. We walked along the bridge but couldnt really enjoy the scenery too much as Thai children were on a school trip and they ALL wanted us to speak english with them...it was v hard to get away without being rude! then we got on the bus to the war cemetry which comemorated the british, australians and dutch that died.it was sad but beautiful. the museum was opposite and very informative, moving and makes you question humanity, it was quite upsetting actually.
but then we went for some local thai cusine which was gorgeous, sweet chilli chicken, vegetables, omlete, rice and pineaple. we got back on the bus and headed to the train station where we boarded the death railway for about half an hour and saw scenery as above.our bus was then waiting for us and took us back to bangkok (about a 3 hour drive).
Basically the journey was awful even tho it was only 3 hours and bus was airconditioned. Wer suposed to be o a train for 12 hours on sunday wen we travel to Chiang Mai and trek for 3 days. As amazing as this would be wer really questioning whether we can do it...wer not being girly girls the heat is indescribable and we dont think this part of the trip will do us any favours with our home sickness. as we are suposed to be doin this with an organised tour group which we then travel down to singapore with for 3 weeks we are currently trying to see if it will be possible to miss out chaing mai and instead meet them along the way at our next destination, krabi, and continue to work our way down with them from that point. lauren is searching for flights and accomodation as i write this and so faar we have a flight foe 10 pounds and accomodation at 9 pounds a nite in a beach hotel, so not too shabby! but we need to get in contact with our group leader to find out if this is allowed, we will be very annoyed if they say we cannot meet them later as we really want to enjoy all our time here and we just dont want to go to chaing mai.
so wish us luck, mum and dad il fone you tomorow (saturday) i think charles may come over this evenin so i can talk to u all at the same time tomorow morning before him and dad go to work. charles i cant believe how much i miss u i didnt think it would be this hard, cant wait to be in ur arms again (no offence mum dad n lisa!) howz my doggie woggie?! giv him a hug from me mum. sim n aish wer having a carazy nite out wen wer bak!missin u guys and i hope everyones happier now?!
