I arrived in Luang Prabang 'finally' after a 7 hour slow boat ride down the mekong river. I took the 2 day journey from Chiang Mai and passed the Laos border near Hong Sa. As soon as we passed the border it was like I went back 40 years....it went from tarmac'ed roads to muddy tracks! I arrived at this small village where we stayed the night, it was a clean but very basic guest house. Funny enough that same night there was a night concert on in this small village, so I paid the stagering entry price of 4000Kip which translates into about 20p! Well it was an experience, put it this way it was like listening to a very very very bad ausition from the X-Factor. So the next day I got on the slow boat down the Mekong River and into Luang Prabang, it was quite late but managed to find accomodatin with no problem for US$4. My first impressions of Laos are that it is amazing, it is so basic yet comforting. I just cant wait to get to Vang Vien for the Tubing!!!! I think I'll stay here for 2 nights then head off. Today I visited the Pak ou caves and whiskey villiage.
