Today I went to the science center in Singapore. I am going to tell you about 3 things that I learned in the science center. The first thing I learned about was Archimedes Screw. Archimedes Screw is an invention from 600 BC that is used to pick up water from one place like a lake and move it to another place like a bucket. This is how it works: there is a REALLY big hollow screw. The hollow part at the end of the screw picks up the water from the river. You keep on spinning the screw to get the water all the way at the top of the screw where the screw walls end at another opening where the water goes out into the bucket. This is a fast way of getting water from a river into a bucket or something else by just turning a wheel. Make sure you go to Videos and watch a video of the screw working. The 2nd thing I want to share with you from the science center is a Vortex. This can be seen in Cloud Rings. Cloud Rings are a gas that moves in a circular motion. Vortexes can also be liquids like a whirlpool. Hurricanes are vortexes too. The museum used cloud rings to show you how vortexes move which is really cool. As you will see in the movie under videos when I push on the black plate with a hole in the middle smoke is released and comes out of the hole and rises. While it is rising the smoke doughnut curls. The smoke goes up through the center of the doughnut then after rising through the center it goes over the top around the outside and then under the doughnut.
Can you guess another vortex? Here is the clue: it is a hollow vortex from nature that is created by a column of air on the inside, which is the hollow part, then there is strong wind on the outside which picks thing up. What do you think it is? That was my day at the science center.
Thank you and please comment.

Gran Gautney Hi Captain, Thanks for the lesson! I am guessing the other vortex is a "water spout". Archimedes is one of my favorite scientists. His discoveries helped us invest many helpful things. Hope your nose is healing and you are able to continue enjoying your trip. Thanks for the wonderful travelogues! Love, Gran
Aunt DeeAnn Hi O -- Gran beat me to the punch -- your Uncle Jeff and I were almost caught in a water spout once -- very scarey. Thanks for all of the updates -- we miss you -- but we are so glad that you are having such a wonderful trip. How is the food in Singapore? XO
Paige Hi O! The science center sounds very interesting and you learned a lot. Hurricanes can have powerful vortexes but I did not know that there can be in cloud rings. Also I was able to see your giant drum from China when I was at your house visiting Jupiter Jen! It was amazing. I can't wait to see you next week!!!! xxx
