We are on the train back to London now and because I didn't get a chance to write my blog yesterday I thought I would combine our last two days together. We had an absolutely amazing time in the South of France and loved every minute of our time there. We will definitely never forget the time we had there and we were so lucky to be staying with a French family. Not only did they know the best places to go and visit but we had to make a real effort to speak French with them. I was very surprised with all the words that came back to me from when I learnt French at High School.
Yesterday was a very special day and because it was our last day we made sure we made the most of it. We woke up early and had some breakfast before we went into the centre of Vaison la Romaine where there was a massive market. Every Wednesday during the Summer people from all around flock to this market and you could just about get anything you wanted. The stalls went for miles! Andrew and I wandered around for hours and didn't get bored because there was so much to see. I found a neat little dress that was only €8 and Andrew bought a couple of new t-shirts.
When we got back to the house we had a swim and then joined the family for lunch. We had a relaxing few hours chilling out by the pool soaking up some rays before Kasi took us to a famous castle that was about 20 minutes drive away. It is called Le Château de Barroux and it is open to public to visit which was very cool. We were given a guide so we could read all the history and on the lookout level it felt like we were on top of the world. Just awesome! We stopped at the supermarket on the way home to get some things for dinner and we were home about 7.30pm.
It was our last dinner with the Lafdals' so we presented them with a gift which they seemed to appreciate very much. We took lots of photos and had a very memorable evening with the family. Just perfect!
Today we woke up and packed our bags straight away so we were all organised. We had a lovely lunch before we hopped in the car with Kasi and Marie and headed to Avignon to catch our train. Marie was leaving for Lille 30 minutes after us so it worked out really well. It was sad to say goodbye to the family but we will see them again soon because they have invited us to visit them in Lille and we are very keen to do that while we are living in London and it is not too far away. Marie will hopefully visit us in London too!
All in all we have had a fantastic time and we hope we can return to this region again in the future. For now it's back to London to settle in and start working! We look forward to all the new adventures ahead of us!
