Day two in Tokyo and we headed out early for a cappuccino. Don't get me wrong - the green tea is lovely, but we need a jolt to wake up! Speaking of jolts, did we mention the cars drive on the opposite side of the road. Now that was an exciting way to start the day...
For breakfast, we went local and headed into a little shop with vending machines. Looking at photos, you select what you want to eat and buy tickets. We include a photo to illustrate how easy it can be to mix up rice and daikon... Better luck next meal...
Today we enjoyed the cherry blossoms - near the hotel with Tokyo Tower in the background, on the way to Sensoji Temple, and in a park. Just beautiful and we lucked out on timing!
For lunch, sushi. I know - I have exceeded my lifetime fish intake. Shauna is missing veggies, but never fear - in Japan, they think outside the bento box and I found a vending machine that sold plastic veggies!
We also would like to take a moment for a tribute to Toto. Not Dorothy's dog, but rather, the porcelain masterpiece that some call toilets! Did we mention our toilet seat in the hotel is heated - pure genius! And I won't go over all the details (in deference to our work colleagues and as a result of the ethics and sexual harassment training), but the toilet at lunch played the music of a flushing toilet - I kid you not.
Speaking of kids, we share a subway graphic that illustrates the dangers of going without a facial mask. Apparently your risk of being sneezed on goes up - I kid you not...not.
Tomorrow is the Shinkansen to Kyoto and we stay in a ryokan. So we may not have wifi til we get back in a hotel. But we will keep on writing and post when we can!
Take care... Pam and Shauna

anaB It all sounds like fun, and you seem to be having fun. I envy you that toilet seat. It puts new meaning into staying regular.
Clarissa Falen to make you feel better I had veggie juice today and i will have some more at lunch and think of Shauna. I love the picture of sneezing and would l like to put that in all of the classrooms! I love the cherry blossoms and I am looking forward to putting in that toilet in our master bathroom!!!
Clarissa Falen when you get a chance check out the new marriage equality symbol.....you are going to have to start loving pink :)
Rick I had almost forgotten about the vending machines, but have not forgotten about Toto - wonderful device! FYI - some blossoms showing here in London, tho I had to squint to make sure it wasn't just the snow flurries creating an optical illusion.
