When we arrived in Sydney between bothme and jamie we had $50 left. This was clearly a major problem as we couldn't even afford a hostel! We spent half of the money getting into Sydney central from the airport so had around $10 each to spend! We left our bags at a hostel promising them we we going to get money and we would check in. We spent the whole day on the internet trying to find someone we knew who could put us up for a few days. Fortunatley after around 4 hours of facebooking people, Jamie's cousin replied and offered to let us stay there.
We stayed in Sydney for a week looking for work to no avail. I had a friend who was working in Mareeba which is an hour or so away from Carins in Queensland. Me and Jamie both got a flight to Carins and i started work 2 days later. Jamie went to Innisfail with some people we had met to try and find work there. After 3 weeks in Mareeba, which is probably the worst place i have seen since leaving the UK, i went and joined jamie in Innisfail. I have been here for 2 months and Jamie has been here 3 now. We stay in a working hostel where you pay the rent and the owners find you a job on a local banana farm. There are lots of different jobs you can do there but on both our farms we are outside in the paddocks rather than in the shed. Before arriving in Oz we knew we would have to do this kind of work to get our 2nd year visa. I was expecting the worst but it is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. The only thing i'm really struggling to come to terms with is getting up at 5am every morning!
We start travelling again in 5 weeks as me, Jamie and Nick who is flying out from home, are going down the East coast together. Then we have a house sorted next to Bondi beach in Sydney for xmas and new years. In january we will head to Melbourne abd begin the job hunt once again.
