It seemed like Fiji was a popular choice of destinations after New Zealand. All the people we were with on the flight had done a lot of research on where to go in Fiji and which islands were the best. We turned up a little bit clueless (shocking i'm sure) so were reading up on it the minue we arrived. We wanted to spend as little time as possible on the main land as it is pretty run down and very dingy.
We booked a pass for 11 days for a boat to take us to different islands. We went to 6 in total, spending 2 days on all islands except 1. The majority of the days were spent laying on the beach and swimming in the sea. The islands were tiny and you could walk around them in 5-10 minutes. Fiji is a very tranquil place and although we had a few drinks in the evening, we chilled out for the majority of our time there and mentally prepared ourselves for work in Oz.
Fijian people are extremely friendly and everytime a group arrives on an island they are greeted with a group of 10 locals singing to them. On 1 of the islands we played rugby against the locals. We lost...............heavily.
Our last island was Beach Coombe where 114 people share 1 dorm! Was an intersting experience that but hopefully not 1 i will be repeating anytime soon. It was on Beach Coombe that we recieved the devastating news about Michael Jackson! All night the DJ played his songs over and over in tribute, turned out to be 1 of the best night we had there!
Travelling is over now, work in Australia awaits!
