Easter Island!!I slept through the whole flight.Getting better at this sleeping on seats thing. Arrived at the airport and met my hostel people. They gave me flowers, ahh!It was a bit of thing there to give a garland of fresh flowers, lovely. We had to wait for the dude to get his van to take us to the hostel, there were a few of us arrived in.There are loads of people visiting every day.Tourism is the big thing there, obviously. So we got to our gaff.A Danish girl, I met at the airport, Kirsten, who was staying at the hostel, ended up in the same room as me.We were both on our own so we decided to wander around together. We ended up hanging out together for the trip as we were both there for the same amount of time.We checked the place out, walked around town, decided what we were gonna do for our time there. The town is not what I expected. It wasn't very big but it was way more developed than I thought it would be.I don't really know what I expected.Easter Island is the most isolated, inhabited place on Earth. They call it the navel of the world and it literally is in the centre of the world.Well certainly the centre of the Pacific. The nearest land to it is 3700 miles away and that is an even smaller island!!Pretty cool. When you look around you see nothing but ocean. It's amazing. You can see the curve of the horizon! It's probably a trick of the eye but I still believe I could see the curve!!But the place is quite modern, they even have internet now.I'm not sure how I feel about that. The people are all dressed in western stylc clothes, take a look at the naked man pic to see what traditional dress is like!!Maybe it's understandable why they don't still dress like that!I suppose tourism does that to a place and that is most people's livelihood.Still, it's a magical place and definitely one of my highlights!!
More to come soon!
