Today we got up at 4.30am to be picked up and taken to the train station for the 6am train. We were told at the station that the train journey may take longer than the standard 4 hours as locals were protesting further up the line. The train set off and zig zagged up the mountain side, going backwards and forwards as we changed tracks. We arrived in Cusco on Sunday and headed straight to our hotel. We rested for 5 hours, and luckily it paid off as we havent suffered from altitude sickness. I guess the cocoa tea helped as well. Cusco is 11,500ft above sea level, and surrounded by even higher mountains.
