Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
WE have spent the last 5 days relaxing at the beach at Puerta Vallarta. We have stayed at the amazing Westin hotel resort on the beach front. 5 star luxury of course! It has 4 huge pools including places to lay and keep cool while sunbathing. It also has a cool bar, Nikki beach, which has beds on the beach for you to chill out on while listening to tunes. We can def recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a very nice place to unwind. Puerta Vallarta is set in Banderas bay, the second biggest bay in the world, home to dolphins and whales. We were lucky enought to see some dolphins one morning as we walked on the beach. We took a day trip on Wednesday out on a boat, it took us to marietas islands, where we spent an hour snorkelling. Yes Jill got off the boat and braved the fish. We then went to a private beach to chill. On the way back we caught a glimpse of a humpback whale coming up for air, we were very lucky as they normally don't start arriving till December. Craigs had a dicky belly for the last couple of days but fortunately it all came good on the day so he could take full davantage of the free bar. We were treated to mexican champagne and caviar, in other words, Sol and refried beans! Last night we took another trip to the Turtle Camp. Here we searched the beach for turtles laying eggs, but were out of luck. However the walk along the beach at dark was cool as the waves lit up silver/blue every time they crashed, apparntly due to the plankton in the water. We got to hold some baby turtles, only 1 day old and then release them all into the sea. 4 of us released about 200! It was funny watching them crawl towards the sea and them swim away, although some were reluctant to go. It was a really good experience to release some animals into the wild, and felt like we were doing some good. Just hope some of them survive. Mexican laundrys are fantastic you leave it and pick it up a few hours later all done, even socks paired all for about 3pounds. We popped into town one evening and were reminded we were in a yank tourist resort, does this mean we have now become travellers rather than tourists. Friday we head back to Mexico city for a few more days and then we fly to Peru on Monday. Hope my mum has a happy birthday on Friday, sorry I can't be there to take you out, I will make up for it next year.
