Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
See photo for this postcard, this is spirit island as per previous postcard. From Jasper we headed to the columbia icefields parkway. On route stopped at the Edith Cavel Mountain, which was a real surprise, noone mentioned it but decided to stop and it was one of the highlights of trip so far. A short walk took us to the base of some snow covered mountains, with huge bluey glaciers coming down the mountain side, then a blue glacier lake with icebergs. Trust me see the photos it was awsome dudes! The icefields parkway takes you through loads of mountains, however on our first day the weather was so bad, sleet and cloud we couldn't see any of them. We stopped halfway at the icefields centre, 7000ft above sea level at a small hotel right opposite the columbia icefield. Bizarre, no civilization for 100k either direction. Only 7 rooms in use as hotel closed for winter the following day, just in time! Thankfully woke up to blue skies, and headed onto the snow coach for a ride right up onto the glacier. Wow it was cold, -10 at least with an icy wind, but it was worth it, to see a glacier up close, and be surrounded by snow. The ice on this glacier is 1000ft thick, bigger than empire state building, and the glacier we were on was 4 miles long. Can't really get the size of it from the photos. From here headed on to Banff through endless glaciers and snowy mountains, the Rockies lived up to expectations. Stopped off at Petto lake, wow how blue was it, honestly our photos are real we haven't had them enhanced, and then Lake Louise, which was full of tourists but still beautiful. Had a couple of nights in Banff but didn;t do much just chilled out, and tried to spot more wildlife from the safety of our car, but only deer, no moose much to Craigs disappointment. Think they have all been killed as only signs of them are the stuffed heads everywhere, only kidding my animal loving mates! Went up to the outdoor hot springs in Banff but at that point the heavens opened and a snow blizzard hit us, so decided seen as we already had colds this probably wasn't wise to go in, even though the natural spring is 38degrees. We have now arrived in calgary, no stampede and no eddie the eagle. Did manage to see Liverpool lose to chelsea 4-1 today, oh dear. As you will see from the photos the swelling has eventually gone, but still some brusing left, yes gone through variuos yellow/purple colour stages, ruining all the lovely photos from the Rockies d'oh. Congratulations to Pete & Esther on getting engaged.
