We arrived here at Kuressaare the capital of the island of Saaremaa Estonia the day before the start of this years Baltic section,cruising Association rally. We only sailed eight nautical miles to arrive here, since we've been here we have had two lovely sunny days but no warmth to the Sun. On our last day we had an interesting tour of the castle and a great group meal in the local restaurant. Unfortunately the weather has now gone bad with cold winds and rain....

We had anchored overnight in Mõntu on our way up to Abruka, a small island off the larger Estonian islands. There is only one other visiting yacht here, another rally yacht. I think we can claim this as another new country that we have sailing into, although it's only a passage anchorage in the lee of a fishing jetty our anchor is down, we will be moving on in the morning to a harbour 23 nm up the coast. We had an unadventurous night sail across from Gotland to Latvia, light winds and almost no darkness, we had a few hours of fog after dawn and for the first time our radar was used in anger. A great sail in company with Des and Anne to Visby 43 nm. Visby is the capital of Gotland and a big ferry port. It is extremely popular with its walled city and lovely cobbled streets, there are down sides. The Marina is twice the price with poor facilities. It's also a stretch of the imagination to call it a safe harbour as its open to SW so we get a constant swell coming in. We have stopped for 2 nights but may stay another because we are expecting strong winds...
