Waking up to the ferocious sound of heavy rain thrashing down on the room ceiling kept me awake from about 4am onwards. Why was it raining? I thought it was meant to be the best time of year to come?! On realising Matt had thrown away the last of our water the night before but not thought to purchase any more, he sheepishly got ready with all the waterproofs he owned and headed out to find the nearest shop... what was he like?!
The weather looked just awful, with dark heavy looking rain clouds covering as far as I could see. As there was no point visiting Mactan beach due to the appalling weather, we decided to head straight to Oslob down the South of Cebu island. Luckily, we bumped into another English couple called Alex and Rose at the hotel who were hoping to do the same thing so we caught a taxi together to the bus station. I'd read that the buses were the cheapest way to travel long distance but they could be chaotic, this should be fun!
On arriving at the bus station, we assessed the situation and managed to find the correct line for the air con bus to Oslob between us without too much stress. There wasn't much in the way of food at the station, only crisps and other things I couldn't even tell what they were. There was also a 'Dunkin Donuts' which sold rolls. They looked great but the processed ham and cheese made me feel a tad sick afterwards.
The bus was a pleasant surprise, very comfortable with a film playing in English too! The trip took nearly 3 and a half hours with multiple stops. We all stayed at the same hotel called MWR Pension House which again was fairly pleasant but more expensive than I would have liked. We were hoping to see the Whale Sharks in the morning and it was located close to that so it was perfect for what we needed.
We rested for a few hours before Philip, the owner, took the four of us by his own Tuk tuk to the town centre for dinner. We stopped outside a street food BBQ and Matt tried a couple of sticks of pork, he said it was delicious. I wasn't sure about eating the street food here but it looked like one of the best ways to eat unprocessed food. We finished the night off in a little restaurant where we sat and had dinner together and chatted about our travel plans. There was so much to see, the more I travel the more I want to travel... I've definitely got the bug!
