Today was being completely devoted to the beach. Jodie was up and out for a walk by 7am while Matt and I had a lie in. She loves an early start that girl. I was up at 8am and made us both breakfast- beans on toast. Jodie cut Matthew's hair in the morning before we headed out as it was long overdue, and she was keen to dye mine that evening before we were heading out for our last meal together.
We walked to the beach for a chill out in the sun. Although Coogee beach was beautiful, there was no breeze which is unusual by the sea and it was absolutely scorching hot. Now in the past, I have lived for getting the perfect tan, but now I'm more worried about burning and ruining my skin more than a tan so I like to have the option of shade- yes, I realise how old I sound! So after an hour of sweating from just about every part of my body, we moved from the beach to the grass area near the town which was still beautiful but had areas of shade from the surrounding trees. We chilled there for a few hours whilst listening to music from Jodie's speakers, I love days like this!
I realised later we were having problems using our prepaid travel card from Caxton which was rare as they are usually very good so I then left the beach to go back to the apartment to use the wifi and try sort it. I had no such luck as the site was experiencing problems but I was pretty sure they would sort it asap.
Jo dyed my hair slightly lighter for me (the perks of having a colour stylist for a Sister) and we got ready for our final meal out together. We met Jodie's boyfriend Ally for the first time too. We caught an Uber to a Spanish tapas restaurant called 'Sun Bar' where we met with Charlotte and her boyfriend Simon, along with some of Jo's friends. We had an amazing night together with gorgeous food. Just before we were about to leave, Jodie spotted a row of wigs and fancy dress clothes on a coat rack which of course we just had to try on like a bunch of idiots, but we thought it was bloody hilarious! After the restaurant, I had spotted an ice cream parlour that I was dying to sample so we all stopped by there on our way to the Pavilion for cocktails. Everyone (apart from the tiny girls) ordered ice cream smothered with warm Nutella... just incredible! We finished our night dancing away in the Pav before walking back to the apartment. Of course the boys wanted a cheeky McDonald's on the way home, but I managed to refrain myself. They do Big Mac sauce as side here though, best thing ever!
The next morning, I woke early to say goodbye to Jo before she went to work, I couldn't believe our family vacay was over already! I would miss her so much, and I'm not sure when the next time I'll see her will be. It made me sad to hug her goodbye.
We spent the rest of the morning sorting out our clean clothes and bags ready for our flight that afternoon. On arriving at the airport, we had plenty of time to chill before our flight to Christchurch. The flight was a pleasant 3 hours long and we arrived in New Zealand bursting with excitement! Unfortunately, as we arrived at 0100 hrs, we made the decision not to book a hotel room as our transfer to the office for our campervan was at 0800 hrs. I tried my best to stay awake as sleeping in the airport was obviously not the most comfortable thing in the world, and I thought to myself, "you can do this, you do nights all the time", however I really struggled. By the time 8am came around, I was exhausted and couldn't wait to get our camper so I could just sleep.
