Last night we went to an upmarket restaurant close to the hotel. Excellent food although rather pricy! But hey, it’s only money and we’re on holiday!!
Today, we made the 3 hour trip from Memphis to Nashville. Pretty much all on the freeway as there is not a lot to do in between. Arrived in Downtown at about 1 pm and thought we would try and book tickets at the Ryman Auditorium - famous live country venue. We had tried to book online but it wouldn’t accept a UK cell phone number. Anyway, by the time we got there they were so.d out!!
Parking. Found parking in the Tennessee Titans stadium car park. This seems to run a shuttle to Downtown but asked security guy who said we could park for free but needed to but a monthly ticket for the shuttle! However, he then suggested we get the car and follow him in his truck and he would take us to a free car park. What a nice guy. He then e planned that you took a lift up to the pedestrian bridge across the Tennessee river which took you right into Downtown. We found a bar called Honky Tonk Central with a live C&W band playing (as many of the bars do) and we had a spot of lunch and a beer.
Looked at a boot shop - but could not quite justify paying $300 for a pair of cowboy boots. Though I bet I would look cool walking down Fleet high street in a pair. Or not!
We then picked up the car and found our AirBnB. This is the first time we have tried this - but we have a couple more afterwards. It is a lovely studio apartment with fully fitted kitchen (fridge freezer, washing and drying machines, etc) as well as a small outside deck. Very nice and although away from Downtown there are restaurants within a 10 minute walk in a nice resi neighbourhood. All to be tried later.
And there’s always tomorrow!
