After breakfast we decided to walk to the very close Diyaluma Falls. These are just over a kilometre from the hotel and on the way we saw monkeys playing in the trees and power lines! The falls are 628 ft high. This is the 361st highest waterfall in the world - I can tell you’re not that impressed with the statistic but it’s still quite impressive!
Returning for coffee and a swim (the pool is an infinity pool but has a leak so was being refilled to make it infinity again - achieved this afternoon.
After a snack lunch we said we would walk to the waterfall on the property. This involves a 1km walk along a jungle path and we had to be issued with leech socks and balm for our exposed legs! Not a great fashion success (see pics)! Once at the ‘falls’ which are not 628ft and do not rank on the world scale, there is a pool under one of the ‘falls’ (this one probably about 15ft!) and we swam therein. It turned out it was much easier to slide into the pool over the slippery rocks than to get out again afterwards!
On our return, shedding our accessories (no leeches were hurt in the telling of this story) back to the now infinity pool. Lin was pressed to go to a tea tasting promotion under the swimming pool (don’t ask) and spent almost two hours listening and tasting. I didn’t! I stayed by the pool!
Tonight is a Sri Lankan buffet and the smells wafting up from the kitchen suggest it will be good!
Tomorrow, we move on to Uduwalawe and another safari.
