Finally, the last day. A full day before our flight and, having ‘done’ Atlanta yesterday, we peruse the map to see what else there is to do in the vicinity. In the end, we found a state park a couple of hours drive away and decided to go there and see the falls.
Amicalola is on the edge of the Nattahoochee forest and we arrived there about 11.30. The information lady told us we could go up 642 steps to see the Falls or we could drive up. Lin isn’t good with steps so we chose the latter! This took us to a 342m levelish walk to the base of the falls which were quite impressive. The recent rains had probably helped here! At the next stop you could see the top of the Falls and, strangely, there didn’t seem to be enough water flowing to make the Falls. Weird! We then walked on up to the lodge hotel where we had a coffee and got rid of all our loose change as a tip!
We then found a spot called the ‘reflective pond’ where we sat and had our lunch watching people fishing (mainly unsuccessfully) for trout. Perusing the map again, we decided to do a circuitous route which took us to Atlanta via Rome. No, not the one in Italy! We then arrived back at the airport about 6pm, dropped off the car, checked in and went to the lounge for our longish wait - 22.20 flight.
And there the trip ended - but not the blog! There will be a further couple of blogs to follow!
