The Amstel Gold Race: Little 5 in Maastricht!: April 19, 2009
This morning, I got up bright and early for you Nick. Well, yes and no. The Amstel Gold Cycling race, which is apparently one of the biggest pro cycling events in Europe (it's part of the European Cup or whatever), was this morning right in Maastricht. The race is through and around the state of Limburg and the hilly areas, but it begins in Maastricht.
I was curious and needed my Little 500 fix, so I rolled out of bed and ventured to the Market Square. Maastricht was beautiful this morning—the sun was shining, birds chirping, and flowers blooming. It was a quiet walk until I reached the square. It was packed with people from all over Europe and there were riders everywhere! Very cool.
They did a whole bunch of hoorah stuff to introduce all of the sponsors and announce all the teams of riders. The winner of last year's Tour de France was riding which was cool. I broke away from the crowd to find a spot on the bridge so I could take pictures. I found a great spot and was able to get some good shots (even though my camera was dying). I think the funniest part is how after all of the riders pass, their team hatchbacks with 8+ bikes on the top zoom by and follow. I took some pictures of that too because I couldn't resist. Nick you would have loved this.
Amsterdam this weekend with Allison and Kellie!!
Tot ziens!

Silke Frank, the Rum Runner class or fleet are boats participating in the race withuot a current WFPHRF handicap certificate. The idea here is to encourage all sailors to come out and try some racing.
