So after our exhausting week of sailing in the Croatian islands, it was obvious what we needed-some more time to relax. Greece lived up to it expectations of crazy partiying, great food, sun, white buildings and made for a fantastic time.
Saturday 9th August: We travelled southwards to Vienna with 3 out of the 4 of us withsome serious food poisoning which really enhanced the flying experience.
Sunday 10th August: Up this morning, feeling so much better that I could even consider eating again. Out to the airport and onwards to Athens. First thing, we got upgraded to a private apartment-always a nice thing then I met up with lil Emma G which also was a pretty nice thing :p
Monday 11th August: Anyways.. so up early with a slightly bigger crew now of me, Ange, Claire, Amz and Em we headed towards the Acropolis...or did we?? Well we made it eventually and headed up the hill in the heat and tourists and took our happy snaps and ran randomly into Jules and Sim. Then it was time to leave and we wandered around town to look for cheap gyros which we found and the love affair started. We headed back to the apartment to chill and catch up on some Olympics and Em made us one good stir-fry!!
Tuesday 12th August: Up early the next morning and it was time to catch our ferry out to the Greek Islands-starting with Mykonos. We arrived and check into our hotel, thats right HOTEL!!! Complete with beds, bath, air-con, tv, fridge, breakfast, internet and pool!! We were living in luxury so we spent a couple of hours soaking it in then visted our local beach and chilled for the rest of the night.
Wednesday 13th August: Next day up after a sleep in and it was my big day, old 22 yr old. Chocolate cake for breakfast was always going be a good choice, we then did a trek to the beach for lunch and cocktails then back to the pool and a nap. Then getting ready again we travelled to Paraga Beach to meet up with the other part of our crew, George and Di, and to taste the most sensational strawberry caprioskas ever!! It was a great day and the girls made me feel very spoilt.
Thursday 14th August: Long sleep in, another fantastic breakfast and lots of lazing by the pool/using the free internet basically summed up today. It was nice to do a lot of nothing.
Friday 15th August: After a a relaxing morning, we caught the bus in Mykonos town to check out the winding alley ways, good crepes and to see the sites such as the windmills and Little Venice which was a lot nicer in the pictures and in your mind, than in real life. Went back to do a bit more of relaxing by the pool and a night of movie watching.
Saturday 16th August: Santorini was a head spin as the ferry approached-love at first sight. Massive cliffs rising straight out of the sea and the volcanic rock looking like another planet. It was stunning! We headed to our dodgy hostel in Perissa and as it was Amii's birthday made a night out at various pubs.
Sunday 17th August: The next day the heat got to us and we tried to relax on the black sand beach although it didnt really work for us. Into town and the views over the Caldera were amazing.
Monday 18th August: The next day we had our big excursion-we went on a cruise, firstly out to the volcano where we hiked up to the top (luckily tho only a bubby one compared to Tongariro). Then we cruised round to the hot springs which included a mud bath. A stop on the island of Thirassa before starting our hike up the cliff to Oia where us with 3 million others watched the famous Santorini sunset.
Tuesday 19th August: The last day was pretty relaxed as Em and Di went diving and then it was time for Ios. Arriving at Far Out was something thats hard to describe, me, Di and George sat open-mouthed at the chaos around. After settling into my tent with Amz, the four of us went straight to the bar for some serious people watching/laughing. It was like a scene out of an american frat party in the movies-mental and hilarious to watch. We started the drinks and spent a crazy night out complete with pub brawl and flaming lambourginis.
Wednesday 20th August: Next day I slept away as my migraines continued, first in George and Di's dog kennel then by the pool. I couldnt back it up tho was still funny to sit by the pool and people watch again.
Thursday 21st August: A quick venture into town then another day of relaxing by the pool. Then it was time for the overnight ferry back to Athens and I was like a little kid at a sleep over all set up with my li-lo, sleeping bag and had an alright sleep on the deck.
Friday 22nd August: We got into Athens early and it was on the train and searching for our hotel through the dodgy, prostitute filled streets of Omonia before sleeping rather uncomfortably on the hotel lobby's couches then for a while in our beds. We then spent the afternoon checking out the shops in the city before hitting the beds early again.
Saturday 23rd August: We ventured into Monastiraki for the markets and lunch before heading back to our hotel and making our way out to the airport for a early morning flight to Spain.
