Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 11
We set of at 9:20am on a very cold and wet morning. The forecast was for a maximum of 13 degrees C. Sunday morning traffic leaving. Stary Smokovec was moderately heavy and the group was split several times. The term "Sunday driver" was very apt for this part of the world as we came across several drivers just dawdling along and apparently without a care in the world.
There were small villages all along the way with reasonable condition highway between each. The next major town we came to this morning was Tatranska Lomnica.
We then crossed the Slovakia / Poland boarder with out even realising it. Unlike. The previous boarder crossings with there remanence of boarder check points on each side, one had none. The first reasonable sized. Town we came to after the boarder was Norvy Targ.
At Rebka Zdroj we stopped for coffee and some apple strudel. It was here that Thomas gave us the question of the day to puzzle while we ride.
" A bear hunter set out directly south from his overnight camp for 1 km then walked exactly west for a further Kilometre and shot a bear. The hunter new that he was exactly 1 km from his camp so carrying the bear back would not be a problem. What colour was the bear and how do you know this?"
Comment if you know.
Continuing on through the Polish countryside wit its rolling hills and many small villages we passed through Mszana Dolna and Dobczyce. Arriving at the later just as mid day mass finished, filling the streets with cars and pedestrians.
We reached Wieliczka about 1:30pmand the rest of the group booked on the 2:30pm 3 hour tour of the World Heritage Listed Salt Mine.

So it was off to the nearby Hotel Grand Salt for soup or pasta. I had a delicious white horseradish soup.
I chose not to take the mine tour for two reasons, I do not like confined spaces and I have a blister on balls of each foot from my 18 km of walking around Budapest. Instead I sat at a table enjoying a coffee, a Grilled Polish sausage and writing the first part of todays blog.
We arrived at our Hotel after negotiating Krakow Sunday afternoon traffic. Up to the room unpack, do a little washing and have a shower and dress.
We travelled by tram four stops to the city then made our way to Peoples Square and our resturant for the night. Resturant Hawetka established in 1876. After consuming mushroom soup in a bread bowl, grilled veal steak with potato scollops and cherry strudel, it was time to catch a cab back to the hotel and have an early night.
