Welp, I have to return home due to the virus. This week has been an emotional rollercoaster from being determined I would not go home under any circumstances, to finding out I have no choice and booking a flight home all within four hours. We spent the week trying to take it all in and went into town and Raglan to go shopping. We had a last dinner all together and spent St. Patrick's Day and last night living up the last time we can all drink legally for awhile. This place is absolutely beautiful and I'm so grateful for the friendships I've made with not only the people I came here with but other students from New Zealand as well. To say I'm heartbroken over this trip coming to an end so soon is an understatement. I'm thankful I had the opportunity to spend a month here even though I expected to have three more. In trying to shed some light on the fact that this sucks, I'll be happy to be back home with my family and Josh sooner than I expected! I was very upset that I would've missed the first day of trout, softball season, Easter, and so much time with my friends and family at home, but now I won't have to miss it. I like to tell myself I got a little bit of both, time in NZ and I won't have to miss so much back home. All my classes have been put online so I can finish my schooling for the semster and it's good timing for us to leave because here on campus they are sending all the students home and closing campus for a few weeks. Most things are closing down or their hours are changing so it's been getting harder to do things. This morning we got breakfast at a place on campus and one of the workers came over and asked us all to move one meter apart from eachother. This whole situation is absolutely crazy and I can't express how heartbroken I am knowing that the friendships I have started could've grown so much more. I just got back to my room after spending my night in Taylor's room with everyone and saying goodbye to them knowing that this was coming to an end literally made my chest hurt. I love everyone so much and pray to God that we continue to stay in touch and do things together. Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible and kept us safe. Big shout out to Jill, our advisor, who went to extremes to make sure we were safe. I hope to be back, and this trip has really inspired me to want to travel a lot more! This world is beautiful, even if it feels like it's falling apart right now! See you guys in PA at 11 pm on Tuesday!
