We arrived back in Paris today for our last few days in Europe of the trip. Paris now feels like an old friend to me and has an air of 'home' about it. I had fallen in love with the city back in early July and I now feel a connection with this glorious city. Having arrived in the late afternoon there was inly one thing to do...eat!
On the way from Orly Airport I had spied a seafood restaurant near Montparnasses which took my fancy, so off we headed. Of course on arrival we realised that my 'expensive' radar had been tuned to overload and that we were significantly underdressed for the restaurant, however they opened their doors as we opened our wallets and balance was restored.
The seafood at this restaurant was spectacular. We both had the most amazing crab for entree. I then had the seabass for main course, which was cooked whole the dutifully deboned by the maitre d' at the table before serving to me. Rossco had a rib eye fillet that put others to shame. With a side of parisian butter mashed potatos we were in foodie heaven!
On our way back from the restaurant we waddled passed Montparnasses tower, the 1973 monstrosity office tower, the only skyscraper in Paris. The Parisians were so upset with this tower after it was completed that two years after its completion the construction of buildings over seven storeys high in the city centre was banned. They would demolish it but it is so full of asbestos that it would cost too much. So it stays as a reminder to them. Obviously not all things were bad that came along in 1973...look at me!
After a late night swim in the basement pool at the hotel, we curled up very contented to be back in Paris again.
