Bronwyn
It took me 2 days of pressuring Bronwyn to par-take in this mountain bike ride from La Paz to Corrico. It is know as the "Most Dangerous Road in the World". And the reason why it is given this title is over 100 people die on this 63km stretch of road every year. They are trying to reduce the amount of people die on the road however many of the truck drivers drive like insane men!!
On the on-set of this ride Bron was scared s***less. I must admit I did feel a bit ill going down the mountains especially passing the various crosses where the human tragedy occurs, however as they say it is safer to ride a bike down the hill where you are in control rather than someone else.
We started riding at 5,000m above sea level to reach Corrico at 1,500m. The first part of the ride was paved with asphalt which made it easier to ride in the 5 degree temperature. The snow capped mountains looks awe inspiring as we took those bends (staying close to the hillside otherwise it would be quite messy if you fell down). Following our other 3 comrades we plunged further down hill. Not only did it become warmer as we plunged, however the vegetation opened up to complete vistas of waterfalls (no kidding we would have see about 50), some we even cycled through.
Finally after 3 hours of gruelling riding on the eyes (for concentration), hands (alleviating the pressure of the gravel road) and bum we made it to an isolated Bolivian Resort where we feasted on home made pasta and kicked back enjoying a Cevesa (local beer). We were even welcomed by their resorts 7 month monkey who believes its Mum is a dog...literally!! This monkey not only sleeps with the dog, eats with the dog it also practically hugs her...you'll just have to wait for the photo.
After showers had been we spent the next day relaxing in Corrico, a beautiful town at the bottom of the Andes.
Thanks also goes out to Steve for keeping us company over those days and teaching us how to play a Bolivian version of Yahtzee!
