Flooding was very widespread on the coastal areas as Vietnam was and had been buffeted by the remnants of Pacific hurricanes. At one point it had been thought that we could not travel in this coastal area south of Hanoi because of the flooding. We did! However a local bus which had headed along this road a few days earlier when the flood was in full flight was swept away with several lives lost.
