Le Havre is our last port on this trip. This port is about 2.5 hours from Paris. Lauren went on a Paris tour today with another woman from our travel group. I have been there, so just stayed and checked out Le Havre. Drizzly and overcast, mid-60s here.
Took the ship's shuttle for $20 to the center of town. Then onto the Yellow BEE BUS; €12 gets you a one hour tour. Went by the Docks Vauban shopping center, Norte Dame Cathedral (under restoration), St. Joseph's Church with the tallest spire in the area, the blue Ocean Stadium, the Granville Abbey, the Volcano Building in the city Center. Went into a few shops. I was able to find my last postcard, and international stamp, and the post office!
Le Havre was bombed during World War II, it is a UNESCO city at the mouth of the Seine River, which leads to Paris. There was a big WWII monument in Charles De Gaulle Square with the names of all the inhabitants of Le Havre who died in the war; three of whom had the last name VALOIS.
Viking leader Rollo founded Normandy area in the year 846 A.D. it is one of the largest shipping ports in France.
Mont St Michelle is about 2 hours away also.
