We got up fairly early this morning to get off to the giant forest in the Sequoia National Park. It took a couple of hours to get there but it was beautiful driving there so I'm looking forward to seeing what's inside. We had to pay $20 to get into the National Park. We drove in noticing that we didn't have much petrol (gas) and there was nowhere to buy any in the National Park, we're hoping we'll be ok though. First stop was the Giant Forest where we went on a walk and saw the most enormous trees. We thought the Kauri trees were big in New Zealand but these were huge. There were also a lot of rocks and we did see a very happy Marmaset monkey sunbathing on one. Also around the park in general there were loads of tiny chipmunks running around. We also went to the Giant Forest museum where it gave information about how they grow so big. The secret is pretty much the perfect soil and growing conditions. The place was extremely busy and we had had to park in an overflow car park when we got here. Once we'd fnished here we moved onto the General Sherman Tree which is the largest tree in the world. It was unbelievable just how big this thing was! Luckily the cars had started to thin out a little so we managed to get a space in the car park. It was quite a walk in American terms, not in New Zealand terms though to the huge tree but totally worth it. Although with it being so busy getting a photo was difficult. It had started to get towards tea time so we headed off, we had not yet made a reservation anywhere but we had already decided to head for Fresno. Stopping off for petrol on the way out, we got on the road and what a stunning road it was alongside wine groves. We got to Fresno, found a Motel 6 and checked in. Hungry, we got a sort of kebab which was nice for a change from burgers and the got ourselves to bed.
