Halfway down the road JD announced the surprise option of cowboy camp, a real working cowboy ranch. We all jumped at the chance. The ranch was run by Rusty, a 92 year old cowboy, and his younger wife Betty.
Everything was set for a great night to finish off this mind blowing trek so with cowboy hat & pistol in hand the party started. Although Rusty & Betty were old they were up for as much as anyone. Betty cooked us steaks & baked potatoes over the camp fire (one of the best steaks I have ever had, this women could do no wrong as she also does a mean breakfast)
To sum up the trek me, Gary & Russell set up a "Kangaroo Court" for that night, getting everyone to write down crimes that had been committed by others on tour e.g.
Sarah - "Do battered mars bars have wrappers"
Phillipa - Up for a crazy night back at Yosemite...ended up only having 1 smirnoff ice (she is English)
Just stupid stuff but it was such a good laugh
Next morning we were up early (7:30, damn those cockerals) but we had to get up anyway as we had some horsetreking to do (just as well there is no law against being drunk while riding a horse). My first time on a horse but thoroughly enjoyable. Only went at walking pace but the trek through the desert on horse back was so cool...felt like a real cowboy.
