We're currently in "Audrey", our campervan, making her feel like home and getting used to her faults. Initially when we picked her up the rattling was intense, but now, on Day 4 we just turn the music up and enjoy. We're in a campsite in Kalbarri, the sun has just set and we're hoping the squad of neighbouring Galas will keep it down while we sleep.
Our first day in WA (Western Australia) was spent wondering around the main street in Perth and along the Swan River. That night we went to an Indian restaurant, run initially by a Hindu monk. The premise is "Eat until your heart is content, and pay what your heart feels." Not sure that would work in Ballymoney, we gave them 20$.
We collected Audrey and drove to Freo (Freemantle, Aussies love nothing better than shortening names)! Freemantle is a cool port where the first convicts and settlers arrived to the west before planes came along. We hired bikes from the Little Creatures Brewery and checked out the stories in the tour of Fremantle Prison.
Our van and home for the next 4 weeks in a Toyota Hiace, 2. It sleeps 3 and surprisingly has a microwave! No kettle or toaster, but it's compact and functional. We've been staying in campsites, normally around $25 and most places have a kitchen with a TV, so watching the world cup hasn't been difficult!
Our second stop was in a small village called Lancelin, above Perth and the sunset here was pretty cool. Obviously the west coast is gonna rack up a lot of sunset snaps. The morning was spent trying to surf and then trying sand boarding for the first time.
The next night was spent in Cervantes, just beside the Pinnacles National Site. The pictures show these, they may have been formed by ancient tree trunk and lime stone formation into the mould of the tree.
And today we have driven 400Km in Audrey to Kalbarri National Park, where tomorrow we're going hiking and canoeing up the Murchison River. So we're slipping back into life on the road and days of the week do have to be remembered, as the world cup is on!
