Hi Everyone
After leaving freycinet we traveled down to the tasman peninsular. We camped for 2 nights at the tasman National Park which is right on the coast. The camp sites were huge. On Thursday we went to Port Arthur. Photo is of one of the ruins. We traced the history of the convicts who had terrible lifes out there even though the place is beautiful. The worst parts were the punishment cells where there is barely enough room to move in and often the convicts were put in cells without any lighting. We went on a cruise to the isle of the Dead. This is where prisoners and military were buried according to who they were they were placed in different areas. Then we went to Point Puer. This was the boys prison. It is only a small island but the boys were also put to work. The dog line was an insentive not to escape. Dogs were put on platoons in the water and around the point. These dogs were trained to attack any escapees.
Saturday. We arrived in Hobart yesterday afternoon. To day we went up Mnt Wellington. Wow! What a drive up to the top. The views are magnificent and the camera could never do it justice. We walked around the top and then went to Richmond. Another beautiful place. There are historical sites - Richmond Bridge which is the oldest bridge in Tasmania and was built by the convicts. The Catholic church and the Angican church Are also very old.
We are heading down to Cockle Creek to walk to the most southern point of Tasmania. THis will be a big walk and proberbly very cold! I am really looking forward to this.
