So... I went skiing, but what else did I do between the 1st of March and April 3rd?
Well, lets see where to begin. Pre ski trip I basically did nothing. Kind of decompressed over the first week or so. Then, of course, the ski trip from March 7-13.
From the 14th on, I spent my time either with friends, reading about/checking out gear, looking at maps, reading about national parks... that was the fun stuff. The other time was spent: cleaning the rental house, packing up my belongings, pawning off/giving away things I wasn't going to keep, and saying my goodbyes.
What I learned in that time:
Friends: I have a lot of good ones in San Antonio and I'm gonna miss'em.
Gear: I love it. I used to think Patagonia was a trendy Georgia/Southern Frat boy clothing company, but realized it was a company with other purposes other than just making those dollars and they make some pretty top-notch clothes.
Maps: Are fun to look at. They also made me reallize how much there is to see... just in the states!
National Parks: I believe there are officially 58 of them... most in the West, each with something unique and worth seeing. I'd love to see'em all but I'll settle for seeing most (wait that would be 30)... ok maybe just some.
Cleaning: A scotch pad can clean anyting in a bathroom. If you allow some overgrowth on a rental property it is likely to cost you 100 bucks.
Packing: However much junk you think you own... you probably own twice that. Also, I know of two ways to pack and am only capable of one. 1) Neatly, this takes a lot of time and is tedious. 2) Franticly, this is what happens when you reallize the suburban isn't packing itself the night before/morning of lease expiration. I'll let you guess which one I'm capable of.
Pawning off: Some things you can't even give away, but if you set it out in your front yard on garbage collection day and put a sign on it that says "Free" it will be gone before you wake up. Things that were taken included: trash cans large and small from around the house and broken luggage with more than one hole in it.
Goodbyes: When you have lived some place for 8 years, even when you know your leaving it doesn't feel real.
And so now the journey begins. I took off at 3 PM April 3rd headed for Memphis.
