I'm out of Atlanta. Struggled to get out. I'm off and in Savannah.
The hostel I was going to stay in had changed to a bed and breakfast and so. I had nowhere (well nowhere cheap) to rest my head. I had remembered somebody telling me that Wal-Mart allowed RVs to spend the night in their parking lots so I figured that would a suburban hurt. So it was set, that is where I would lay my head. I ended up spending all my nights in Savannah in that very parking lot... Oh, let the good times roll.
The places I visited:
Forsyth Park - I started off by going to a pretty big (at least by my standards) city park. I spent a large portion of my time in Savannah in this park because there were a lot of people hanging out playing all sorts of sports, I participated in some frisbee throwing but there was: volleyball, soccer, Baseball, Softball, hacky sack, croquet, and then all sorts of invented games that I was intrigued with. You can see why I would be drawn to this park.
Tybee Island/Beach: I spent one morning/early afternoon on the Beach at Tybee Island. It was a beautifal day, a decent beach, and very relaxing. The water was oh so cold, I only made it in up to my ankles. I know, I know... woose, but I'll have more opportunity for the water.
Historic Savannah: I walked around Historic savannah quite a bit. Put in quite a few miles Walking up and down all the streets and seeing all the town squares. The squares are pretty little areas that are surrounded by some southern homes. At night there always seemed to be somebody playing music somewhere, so thats generally where I ended up. Whether it be in a small coffee shop or the city market.
Thats a little snippet of how I spent my time in Savannah. Oh, wait, I spent most of Saturday volunteering or partaking in the Earth Day Festival at Forsyth Park. It was pretty good. One thing I noticed is that a lot of the booths had freebies and these, invariably, were the more crowded of the booths. I had already decided that I was not going to take any of these freebies, but I still found myself gravitating to the booths that had freebies... not so much to take the freebies, but to judge the quality of the freebie. What is that? What is it about us as people that are drawn to freebies, whether taking or not. No matter how crappy these freebies were, I wanted to see them and people were taking them. Strange. Now, I think I know what was going on in my mind "but what if this booth really is giving away something really, really cool." They never are... they never are.
Now on to St. Augustine, where I will have the chance to stay in my first hostel.
