So another train done! 7 hours and no sleeping allowed on this trip. We are in a 3 AC this time, which is a small cabin with 6 beds. Triple bunks- every child's dream! We have some friendly neighbours a family of 5 opposite us. After a couple of hours and too many rounds of rummy the food orders are being taken. All we know is that it costs about 125 rupees and it takes about an hour to arrive!
Sure enough an hour later our little cardboard boxes are delivered to our seats. Our boxes are filled with numerous small plastic bags, a couple we think is watered down curry, possibly lentils, A bag of onions, some chapattis in foil, a popadom and sachet of pickle. Our first thali!!!!! Let's just say we will be bringing our own dinner on future trips!
We land in jodhpur around midnight and as we step out of the station we are mobbed with so many aggressive rickshaw drivers. Not ideal when you're tired and eaten a couple of bhang cookies!! Hehe!
The 4* hotel, or should we say 4* s**thole! It took 4 room attempts to find an acceptable room which was clean with unsoiled sheets. Even the night manager just shook his head and couldn't answer. In the end we had to select the best of a bad bunch.
In the morning, the general manager still had the cheek to try and charge us for water. Brad told them they can stick the water up the arse of the cleaner! The hotel manager tried to moan about the travel agent in Delhi and blame them, yet they don't control their cleaners?!?!
We hit the streets and turned our nose up at breakfast, but for good reason... It was... Omelette town! As we walked through the market and got lost in the winding backstreets, we were on a mission to find 'the' omelette man!!
As most of our street food finds have happened, we aimlessly strolled through the main gate to the market and there he was- THE OMELETTE MAN!!! Either side of the gate are two omelette shops that compete against each other for their customers attention. We went with the old guy, the official guy, the guy who has been cooking omelettes outside his corner shop since 1970, the guy who goes through a thousand eggs a day (he even showed us is stock book to prove it!) This bloke is unreal at making these eggy pancakes!
Besides the omelette man, we just walked around and hiked up yet another fort, which like all the rest was... Better from the outside! Although the sea of blue houses was unbelievable. It really was a blue city!
That's it from Jodhpur, cya in Udaipur!
