One of the major cities of the world, bangkok is not normally a restful place. However, the day i arrived the UK government advised against all non essential travel to the city. The red shirts were in town!
I had seen the red shirt protests on TV while in Laos and Cambodia. However, I didn't know what they were protesting about! When I got there I decided to find out. Some research online explained a bit more. The protesters were complaining at the increasingly dictatories behavior of Abhisit, the Thai Prime minister. He seezed power in 2007 by a coup (like you do). He was sporting enough to hold elections in 2008 but lost and remained in power. His party, the check this, THE ARISTOCRAT PARTY, isn't really sure about democracy! The thai people, ever partient, have finally got sick of this and started peaceful protests in the centre.
Anyway! These protests weren't much of a problem and I managed to get some work clothes made and get some stuff that I needed for Australia without mch difficulty despite a sore throat!
