Fri 24th August 2012 - Saturday 25th August 2012
For those playing at home, throw away that itinerary we left you because we have. With Karen and Phil - and Johanna too - unable to join us in the Flinders, we have ditched the plan and are now heading towards Victoria and then north from there. Something we have noticed since leaving Port Augusta, GREEN - lovely green lush pastures. Turning left off the highway at Port Pirie and headed through some of the best farming lands around in Gladstone. Time to hit the picturesque Clare Valley - home of popular reislings and shiraz. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't all that kind to us so we headed out of town to Burra Gorge National Park. It was very cold and windy there too but it was a lovely drive along Worlds End Highway. The next morning we continued along Worlds End Highway (just love the name) through Robertstown to Eunduna - great farming land out there too. The land is dotted with ruins from early pioneer days which makes the drive interesting. Driving along through the Barossa and then into the Adelaide Hills - just gorgeous!! We made the drive up to Mt Lofty to show Lance because he hadn't been there before but, of course, as soon as we parked the cars, the clouds rolled in and we saw ....... nothing!! Like being at Mt Tomah in January for a wedding, Mel. ha ha. Anyway, on we pushed to Hahndorf for lunch and a little walk in the rain around the town. It was then to Goolwa - where the Murray meets the sea, for overnight. Reflection on our day, we saw some beautiful farms and can't help but envy those people living in Adelaide with so much at their door. It's been a long day driving but it was never boring. We left Burra Gorge this morning at 8.30 am and pulled into Goolwa to set up camp at 4.30 pm. We've now travelled just over 9,000 km since we left home on the 4th July.

Karen & Phil Sorry to see you're not getting good weather. Sam's funeral is on Thursday, so looks like we will be here for the week. I'm loving those fantastic shots of the countryside! Keep up the good work & looking forward to meeting up in warmer weather up the coast xx
Warren Thank you so much for the wonderful coverage, it is both pleasing and reassuring. That you are all safe and in good health and accident free.
Mum B We loved the green fields, didn't like your slippery muddy road that didn't look too good, hope you get good weather and enjoy the new route you have taken, looking forward to more interesting discriptions and photos. Thank Lance for email.
Julie Webster Its not until I read your blogs and see the fantastic photos you and Dave have taken that I realise just how huge, desolate and yet beautiful a country we live in. Keep up the good work, I wait to read how exciting a time you are having. Mike and I are O/S for 2 months next year but outback Aus has definately got to be on our bucket list. Glad your still safe and sound n keep it that way :) xx
