We sadly left Texas this morning on a cold but sunny morning. Our goal was to drive across Oklahoma, with a stop at the Oklahoma City Memorial. This morning we did some routine car stuff, or so we thought. Went to a Jiffy lube and Larry ended up having to call Freddie, our Tybee mechanic to figure out how to keep the oil filter from leaking. Are you kidding me? We headed down Route 66 to see the 10 Cadillacs that were inserted into the ground at the Cadillac Ranch. Lots of spray paint added by lots of tourists! What an eccentric Texan! We awoke to snow and 25 degrees! The snow was light so we took a walk...cold but beautiful! We made another visit to Ft. Davis and had an informative chat with a volunteer about the fort. Lieutenant Flipper was the first black graduate of West Point...he was stationed at Ft. David and later court marshaled on grounds of embezzlement. Today we head back East. From Fabens, just south of El Paso, we head southeast to Fort Davis Texas State Park. Before leaving Fabens we hit the town's grocery store that had no signs in English advertising products! They had a bakery that was making tortillas plus one with the normal baked goods. We left Big Bend NP this morning, destination, Cattleman's Steak House, in Fabens, TX. This is the original impetus for this trip. On the way we went through the Big Bend Ranch State Park, which included Terlingas, home of the International Chili Cook-off.
