Ok, so round two of blogging from New Zealand, here goes;
We've literally just separated from our kiwi experience bus as we're going off on a different route to a little place they all recommended called river valley. It's meant to be amazing for white water rafting and we stay in a little lodge by the river- cannot wait. But alas, we have to wait in a library for 3 hours until the shuttle picks us up. It'll be worth it though.
This past week has been so fun. Let's start with the best place on the South Island: Queenstown.
Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand so obviously we had to just get involved.
I did a bungy jump and a canyon swing.
This is a great achievement for me as someone who is pretty scared of heights. I must admit, I was absolutely terrified but it was the most amazing experience that I would definitely tell people to do. It's like nothing else in the world and unfortunately this makes it hard to describe to people how amazing it is. But seriously, both are so different from each other but both amazing and terrifying. (I did my canyon swing backwards and upside down because I'm mental)
Also in Queenstown, much to my dismay, we did a 2 hour walk up to the top of the gondola which was a good achievement but I hate climbing hills and mountains so yeah haha. We got the gondola back down which was a fantastic decision and eventually had a fergburger to celebrate our walk.
Now a fergburger is literally the best burger in the world.
In four days in Queenstown I had 2. And I feel like I didn't have enough. They were absolutely delicious. The best burgers ever.
We also went out in the evening a few times but as we were there over Easter and NZ won't sell alcohol on Easter Sunday or Good Friday our nights were cut a bit short but QT was a great place to go out.
Next stop: Lake Tekapo
Now this is a dark sky reserve- one of the best places to see the stars as there is no light pollution. Alas, it was so cloudy the night we were there that we could see no stars in the sky. At all.
Oh well, it was a beautiful lake (glacier made so it was so clear) and we had fun staying there despite the lack of stars. We even wrapped up warm for a night of star gazing to walk outside to pure darkness so we decided it was safer to go back inside and watch 300 with the bus group.
And then we returned to Christchurch and Kaikoura to make our way back to the North island and as we didn't like Christchurch and it rained the whole day in Kaikoura, I don't really have interesting stories from those days.
Then we did the ferry crossing. Which was a 3 hour crossing for a 20km journey.
How ridiculous.
Besides the ridiculousness it was a very fun journey as I love ferries. There was a hilarious announcement halfway through which we expected to be a safety notice, but was actually an announcement that the scone trolley was travelling around the boat. Scones. An announcement for scones. Mentel. (Delicious scones by the way)
Last night, we arrived in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. We arrived very late at like 6 and were leaving at 7.45 the next morning, we decided that going out would be the best way to explore the city. We found some weird and wonderful bars (one called 'the library' which actually had books on shelves lining the walls and served me a cocktail with fruit loops in it).
So now we're making our way up the north island and I'll update this next time I remember.
Bye now xxx
